A clear understanding of structural anatomy can greatly improve your yoga teaching and personal yoga practice. Guided through the key anatomic principles and concepts, you will emerge from this class series with a picture of the working whole, instead of simply memorizing anatomic pieces. Going beyond the Western anatomy model, the anatomy of energy as viewed in the East is introduced. Taking this understanding of physical movement and energetics, you will be able apply it directly to the practice of yoga, learning to recognize imbalances in students bodies as well as gain a greater understanding of how your own body moves.
Learn to see the muscles in action and correctly describe the movement, learn how muscles interact to form various yoga poses and see demonstrations of structure and function. In addition, you will participate in an asana practice that will allow you to feel in your own body the actions of the muscles, and participate in hands-on time to integrate the teachings and see the variations in different bodies.
This anatomy intensive is open to teacher trainees, current yoga teachers, and committed students who wish to learn more about their bodies, apply the mechanics of movement and energy into your own practice and your teaching to optimize practice, break through blockages and avoid injury.
This training provides 18 contact hours (12-7pm with a one hour break each day) and is eligible for Yoga Alliance CE credit.

Kendell Sullivan, CRNA, RYT 500 is a yoga and meditation teacher, nurse anesthetist and Thai Bodyworker. She took her first college anatomy class in 1991 and began working in the hospital in 1994. Through years of Western medicine experience, she realized there was a missing component in the way illness was viewed and treated. Teaching yoga and practicing Thai Bodywork allowed her to bridge the gap and apply her studies of Eastern concepts with classical Western training. Kendell is passionate about the study of the human body and how healing occurs through the connection of body, mind and spirit.
