Meet Matt Lund, 31, Oak Park
Meet Matt, our student spotlight for Oak Park! This is a VERY special student spotlight because Matt is good friends with me (Kelly) and Masin! Masin and Matt used to play together and get into trouble (sorry guys!) when they were kids at Lincoln Elementary, and Masin, Matt, and myself were good friends in high school and beyond.
Matt and his wife Meggie are members at the Oak Park studio and have been for years. Meggie is incredibly smart and wrote the History of Yoga section for our teacher training manual, and also did workstudy for a while.
Matt’s mom Mary Heidkamp has provided me with coaching sessions, and before I opened Ahimsa I was Mary’s assistant for her business, Dynamic Insights. She is an excellent business coach - I highly recommend working with her!
Here is Matt’s interview:
What do you do when you're off your mat?
I spend time with my wife, Meggie, and my two cats, Boo Bear and Rawr Rawr. I also like to travel, go to concerts, and go to music festivals.
What brought you to Ahimsa for the first time?
My wife finally convinced me it could help with my stiff neck and daily stressors.
What's your favorite thing about this studio?
The teachers and community are very supportive, welcoming, and accepting of everyone.
What is your favorite type of yoga class (hatha, yin, vinyasa, etc.) and why?
I have a routine that includes a little bit of everything but almost never miss restorative on Sunday night!
What's your advice for someone coming to yoga for the very first time?
Remember to breathe!
What has your practice given you?
A chance to heal my mind, body, and soul.
What's your favorite pose?
Any supported backbend.
What's your least favorite pose?
Tell us something unusual about yourself?
I’m color blind.
What 3 words would a good friend use to describe you?
Spontaneous, friendly, outgoing.
What's your guilty pleasure/s?
I like to listen to Howard Stern.
Have you made any changes in your life as a result of your yoga practice?
I have become more mindful and learned how to come back to my breath when times get hard or stressful.
If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone you wanted, who would they be?
Howard Stern, RZA, Bill Wennington, Bruce Wayne, Charlize Theron, and Ram Dass.
