Ahimsa Berwyn Student Spotlight: Laurie Lambert
Meet Laurie Lambert, 61, Berwyn
What do you do when you're off your mat?
I work as a high school special education teacher at a therapeutic day school in Chicago. I like to read a lot. Recently I have begun printmaking with linoleum blocks again and growing orchids in my spare time.
What brought you to Ahimsa for the first time?
I had been having a tough winter, and feeling down, when I kept seeing the Ahimsa Berwyn sign and thinking “this might just be what I need.” I was right!
What's your favorite thing about this studio?
It’s a cozy community.
What is your favorite type of yoga class (hatha, yin, vinyasa, etc.) and why?
Iyengar yoga is my favorite style because of the attention paid to alignment and detail.
What's your advice for someone coming to yoga for the very first time?
Don’t worry about what you look like, just listen and don’t forget to breathe.
What has your practice given you?
My practice has given me a way to motivate myself to be healthier and more mindful.
What's your favorite pose?
Inverted poses are my favorite.
What's your least favorite pose?
The one I should be doing - a balance pose!
Tell us something unusual about yourself?
I skipped the 4th grade.
What 3 words would a good friend use to describe you?
Kind, loyal and creative
What's your guilty pleasure/s?
Prosecco and whole milk Greek yogurt-not necessarily at the same time.
Have you made any changes in your life as a result of your yoga practice?
Practicing Yoga helps me find gratitude for this life.
If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone you wanted, who would they be?
My late parents, grandparents, great grandparents as well as my children. I would be more of an active listener this time.
