Meet Michelle Smith. 31 years old, Berwyn

What do you do when you're off your mat?
I am an 8th grade bilingual science teacher.  Besides that, my family has trained and raced harness horses for many generations.  I love to take care of the horses and travel with my mom and dad to help with racing all of the horses.

What brought you to Ahimsa for the first time?
GROUPON!  Who doesn't love a great deal!

What's your favorite thing about this studio?
I love all of the instructors and students. Shoutouts for being awesome go to Caitlin, Kevin (we miss you), Liz, and Mona (in alphabetical order NOT by favorites)!

What is your favorite type of yoga class (hatha, yin, vinyasa, etc.) and why?
Vinyasa for sure!  I enjoy the challenge and variety that comes with each class.

What's your advice for someone coming to yoga for the very first time?
My advice for someone coming to yoga for the first time is to not compare yourself to anybody else.  Everybody practices yoga for different reasons and has different intentions and goals set for themselves.  Comparing yourself to somebody you think is more advanced or better than yourself will only hinder your own self practice and self love.

What has your practice given you?
Yoga has taught me that we don't need to work towards self perfection on and off of our mats.

What's your favorite pose?
Inversions

What's your least favorite pose?
Chair Pose

Tell us something unusual about yourself?
I have lived in Mexico and I am fluent in Spanish.

What 3 words would a good friend use to describe you?
1. Outgoing
2. Dedicated
3. A Leader

What's your guilty pleasure/s?
I really enjoy organizing and I am really good at it.  Coordinated baskets, bins, and a nice laminated label bring me so much joy (haha)!

Have you made any changes in your life as a result of your yoga practice?
Overall, I am a healthier and more loving person since practicing yoga regularly. Yoga has helped me to look past the things I cannot change, and focus on the improvements that can be made in my life in order to be a better person.

If you were having a dinner party and could invite anyone you wanted, who would they be?
I would invite Pablo Escobar, Al Capone, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), JK Rowling, Wisin, Yandel, and of course you can't forget Ghandi.
