DECLARATION OF COMMITMENT
TO ANTI-RACISM

Ahimsa means non-violence in thought or deed. Ahimsa is just one part of one of the eight limbs of yoga philosophy.

We want to be a place where all of our community members feel represented - in our teachers and students.

We want to work to lower barriers to entry for BIPOC in our communities with anti-racism work. Ahimsa believes that #BlackLivesMatter and that it is the role and responsibility of white people to work to abolish systemic racism and make reparations to Black lives and other POC who are harmed by it.

Ahimsa is unwavering in our commitment to eradicating racism by actively being and doing anti-racist work.

Here is our anti-racist statement and commitment to Black Lives and other POC affected by racism:

  1. The current primary demographic of yoga students and teachers doesn’t represent our racially and economically diverse communities. Therefore, we are committed to offering scholarships for our teacher training program to Black and BIPOC in need, because we believe in the importance for racial and economic diversity in yoga teachers.

  2. There are oppressive and unjust forces at play. Therefore, we are committed to attending, hosting, or sharing anti-racist workshops, classes, or discussions, to educate our community and ourselves and eradicate racism.

  3. We will take steps to make our community more inclusive and accessible to POC. We are committed to removing barriers to practicing. This includes offering adjustable pricing for POC in need, and providing classes for established groups of POC at their request.

We love what yoga does for our minds, bodies, and spirits, and want to share that with underrepresented groups. We understand our need to actively participate in anti-racist activities, dialogue, and learning in order to make changes to our communities.
